Tullis Russell Supports NAPM Led Environment Initiative
Leading independent, employee-owned Papermaker, Tullis Russell, is delighted to be supporting the National Association of Paper Merchant (NAPM)'s Two Sides campaign, with Marketing Director, Malcolm Sinclair, being appointed to the Steering Group.
The NAPM led campaign has been launched in a bid to show that print and paper is an environmentally sustainable medium. An industry-wide initiative, it aims to dispel the negative and often misinformed environmental criticisms regarding paper and to educate the paper-buying public so they can make informed choices while, at the same time, promote responsible paper use.
The campaign will encourage people to question their existing wisdom about paper, to counteract the impact of the current environmental lobby against the paper industry and to arrest the guilt surrounding the use of paper.
Tullis Russell’s backing of the initiative comes at an appropriate time for the company as it prepares for the construction of a 45 MW biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility at its plant. The CHP generator, to be built in partnership with RWE npower Cogen, will reduce Tullis Russell’s annual carbon emissions by 250,000 tonnes while generating 6% of Scotland’s renewable generation targets and should be operational by 2012.
Martyn Eustace, Director of Two Sides, commented: “We are delighted that Tullis Russell is supporting this cause. The Two Sides initiative is gathering increasing momentum in the UK, as supporters come forward from sectors including inks, chemicals, machinery, pre press and printing.
Changing the public perception will take both time and effort but Two Sides has the potential to provide a common voice to get the message across that the industry has a first-class environmental record.
I am confident that Malcolm will be a valuable addition to the Steering Group and will play a fundamental role in driving the messages we are trying to promote.”
Malcolm Sinclair, Director of Marketing at Tullis Russell, commented: “The decision to support the Two Sides campaign reflects our business strategy for sustainable development.
Our expanding portfolio of FSC and recycled accredited paper and board grades and our recent support of the Two Sides Campaign are part of our ongoing commitment to using and promoting renewable sources in paper manufacturing.
We are a prime example of a company which is growing and responding to market demands while championing an environmentally friendly approach.”
Printers can join the Two Sides campaign for £25 per million pounds of UK turnover, although a minimum of £150 is required.
