Rankin Portraits Launch With Naturalis
A combination of premium paper, cutting edge design and creative excellence underpinned the recent launch of iconic photographer Rankin’s new book at London’s Design Museum. The brainchild of the Rankin studio and SEA design, the event gathered over 200 leading figures from the design community to experience the stunning impact of Rankin’s work first hand and sample the latest collection of his world-renowned images. Selected attendees won the opportunity to pose for a unique Rankin portrait, following in the footsteps of previous subjects such as Jude Law and Tony Blair.
Naturalis paper was selected for the production of the book and led to a close collaboration between Tullis Russell Papermakers, SEA design and Moore’s the printers. Alex Wood, Tullis Russell’s specification manager, commented: “The event represented the culmination of a long and fruitful collaboration which successfully brought together the disciplines of photography, design, print and papermaking. In keeping with the international reputation of Rankin it was vital the finished product did his work justice and Naturalis was well placed to achieve this. Specification of premium paper lies at the heart of good design, hence the reason we were determined to help deliver a launch which showcased the work to such a key audience. “
Rankin commented "We are really pleased with the high quality of the book. The paper and print reproduction are excellent and we had a lot of fun pulling the project together." '
Keith Arnold from Moore’s Printers commented: “Rankin’s images are unique and we were committed to using a paper which has a quality feel. Naturalis delivers excellent printability which was essential in reproducing the work. It’s reassuring to benefit from the flexibility of an uncoated paper which also performs.”
